Gymnast looks ahead to Nationals

The excitement of becoming the 2013 YMCA National Level 5 Balance Beam Champion is increasing for Callan Vaughn, a 10-year-old Trumbull resident soon to attend 5th grade at Tashua Elementary. Gymnasts at the Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA can train up to 12 hours a week at the Family Program Center on 20 Trefoil Dr.

“I feel more confident coming back to practice because now I feel that I can win at any meet now,” states Vaughn, back from Savannah, GA where the 2013 YMCA Gymnastics National event was held. “I was surprised when I was called up as the National Beam Champion and happy because all my friends and teammates were there.”

“Callan has demonstrated many solid performances on the balance beam in competition this year,” states Hayley Foster, Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA gymnastics recreation coordinator and head compulsory coach. “Her skills are clean and her routine is polished. She definitely deserves to be beam champion — I am extremely proud of her!”
