Trumbull United Scorpions defeat Monroe Panthers

The Trumbull United U-11 Scorpions defeated the neighboring Monroe Panthers, 4-1. Kyle Kegan, Stefan Cordas and Logan Blazer all scored goals. Kegan finished on a rebound off a free kick by Dylan Moreira. Cordas looped a shot over the keeper's head after passes from Owen Bull and Jack Digiovanni. Blazer slotted home a direct free kick from outside the box. Off a corner kick from Kegan, Trumbull benefited from a Monroe own goal. The Scorpions moved to 2-1 in the fledgling season behind a strong defensive team effort and some pointed team passing On the girls’ side, the U-13 Hot Shots have picked up all six points available in their first two league games. During the opening week, Korrie Munoz scored all four goals in a 4-1 victory at New Milford. In the home opener, Trumbull controlled the play throughout winning 4-0 over Monroe. Trumbull’s first goal came off of Payton Corsi’s right foot. Corsi smoothly put the ball in the back of the net off a feed from Evelyn Marchand. Munoz’s solo effort accounted for the Hot Shots’ second goal. Up two goals at halftime, coach Meg Loughman switched from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 alignment, which made it seem as if the Hot Shots had an extra player on the field and helped them to dominate the final 40 minutes. They would add their third goal when Olivia Centopani put home a rebound, while the final tally belonged to Kathryn Finnegan. In goal, Jaime McMahon and Julia Marin combined for the shutout. They were aided by a strong defensive performance from Riley Trubovich, Caroline Pagliaro, Anna Storino, Ashley Engen, Kaitlyn Bailo and Caroline Buck In midfield, Lindsay Bull, Corrinne Howell, Madelyn Peddle, Risa Hilinski, Grace Dias and Kaitlyn Coppola all did a fine job of linking the back and front lines. The U-11 Tornadoes lost to Westport, 6-3, to drop to 1-1 on the season. The Tornadoes got on the board with their most gorgeous soccer of the young season. Striker Anabella Martins made a sweet pass to outside midfielder Abby Lee, who finished calmly in the corner. Westport stormed back to take a 4-1 lead before the Tornadoes cut it to one when Lee set up Adele Datz for her first goal of the season. Moments later, Lee scored again to make it, 4-3. Westport pulled away with a couple of insurance goals for the victory.
