Youth soccer: Tornadoes top Old Greenwich, Fairfield

The U-11 Tornadoes have begun their season by winning three of their first four games in league play.

On Sunday, they traveled to Old Greenwich and left with a 3-1 triumph.

Abby Lee had a foot in all three goals.

Lee scored the first one off an assist from Brianna Buda.

Lee passed the ball to Mia Mallone, who calmly finished for the second, while Katie Marchand found her buddy, Lee, for the third and final goal.

In this hard fought match, Anabela Martins cleaned up all Old Greenwich challenges from her center defense position, while Lucy Carlson, Adele Datz, Jane Parente, Ellie Hebeler and Sophia Bennett limited Greenwich’s chances.

Hope Platt, Avianna Rivera and Leela Kocinsky combined in goal for the shutout.

A week earlier, Trumbull beat Fairfield, 5-0.

The Tornadoes got on the board when Lee galloped from the halfway line for a breakaway goal.

Rivera and Mallone calmly made it 3-0 at the half with sweet finishes.

In the second half, Brooke Hebeler scored twice.
