The Trumbull United Soccer Club’s U9 girls and boys team won the Tri-Town Soccer Academy Tournament over the last two weekends at InSports in Trumbull.

The U-9 girls defeated a well-coached Monroe club, 2-1, on a late goal by Abby Gruttadauria with just minutes remaining in the championship. Trumbull kept Monroe to one goal behind a strong defense, led by Olivia Flores, Peyton Bashar and Jocelyn VanStone in front of keeper Catalina Mozzo. Emily Meagher placed home the first Trumbull goal for head coach Tyler Jorge.

“Coach Tyler and his Thunder team are a driven group,” Trumbull United’s director of  girls coaching Jamie Jorge said."It's not a surprise they rise to these occasions. I have a feeling the best is yet to come."

In the fall, the girls won the Fairfield Tournament.

The previous weekend, the U-9 boys won the Tri-Town tournament by beating a Premier team and two other strong travel teams.

"I think we really shocked our opponents,” coach Carlos Reinoso Jr. said. " These boys played with heart. They played with a tremendous amount of energy and we're just hungry to win every ball. Our passing was connecting beautifully.”
