The Trumbull Post 141 American Legion Junior baseball team defeated Meriden , 7-3 on Monday, to advance to this Wednesday’s state tournament quarterfinal knock-out round.

Trumbull, with two playoff wins under its belt, will take on Norwalk, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel High.

A third Zone IV team, Fairfield, winners of three straight in the tourney, will meet Naugatuck from Zone V  in the other Southern Division semifinal at 6:30 in Bethel.

South Windsor, RCP, West Hartford and Tolland all advanced to the Northern Division semifinals.

The winners of each division semifinal will play Thursday at 6 p.m. with Bethel hosting the Southern Division.

The state championship will be decided at 6 p.m. Saturday at Stamford’s Cubetta Stadium.

Trumbull defeated Bethel 6-5 on Sunday to advance to play host Meriden at Legion Field.

Post 141 scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie.

Liam Moore doubled in John Suporn, who had walked to start the fifth, and scored on Matt Fasoli’s two-out single to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Meriden Post 45 scored a run in the sixth and again in the seventh, but Trumbull tacked on two more in its half of the seventh on Fasoli’s two-run double.

Brian Hnatuk took a two-hitter into the sixth inning and Niko Principi came on in relief to pitch the seventh.

Jeff Hage, Connor Broderick (two), Ryan Broderick, Moore, Fasoli (two) and Suporn had the Trumbull hits.
