Trumbull Wrestling Club advance seven to states
Trumbull Youth Wrestling have qualified seven grapplers to the state tournament.
Dominick Spadaro (3rd place, age 8) qualified for states in the 60 pound division by going 4-1 on the day. Spadaro won an 8-1 decision over Sean Mancini (Norwalk) in his first match. He scored an 11-3 major decision over Jordan Ortega (Derby) in the quarterfinals. After losing 7-0 to Phoenix Gardella (Norwalk) in the semifinals pinned Motley (Norwalk) in 47 seconds in the consolation semis. He played third with a 5-2 decision over Luke Longo (Stamford).
Jack MaGrath (2nd place, age 9) qualified for states in the 112 pound division by going 3-1 on the day. McGrath pinned Benedetto (New Haven) in 30 seconds, Muro (Norwalk) in 1:33 and Michael Mariniin 1:20 before losing in the finals to Singer (Norwalk).
Jake Peterson (2nd place, age 11) qualified for states in the 105 pound division by going 2-1 on the day. Peterson pinned Glynn (Hurricane Wrestling) in 1:57, lost 10-2 to Pearson Hill (Milford) and came back to pin Quinn Eyrin (Milford) in 25 seconds.
Jack Ryan - (2nd place, age 12) qualified for states in the 91 pound division by going 2-1 on the day, losing to the defending two-time state champion from Milford, C.J. Shea 4-2 in sudden victory. Ryan had a pin over Colin Loria (Hurricane Wrestling) in 45 seconds and a 4-0 decision over Henry Bosken (Fairfield PAL).
Jackson Lapham (3rd place, age 13) qualified for state in the 98 pound division by going 3-1 on the day. Lapham pinned Denis Toslluku (Fairfield PAL) in 2:08 before losing to Cole Shaugnessy. He then won by injury default over Peyton Tracy (Branford) and pinned Brent Strand (Tugman) in 2:10.
Vinny Orizotti (2nd place, age 13) qualified for states in the 144 pound division by going 1-1 on the day. Orizotti pinned Daniel Quinones (New Haven) in 43 seconds and lost to Jakari Walker (Norwalk).
Jakob Vierra (1st place, age 13) qualified for states in the 210 pound division by going 2-0 on the day. Vierra pinned Philip Boyles (Milford) in 1:25 and again in 3:20.
