The U-9 Trumbull United Thunder picked up their first spring win in the A Division with a 6-0 blanking in Fairfield.

Sophia Bennett scored twice, while Abby Lee, Abby Gruttadauria, Lily Seltenreich and Katie Marchand each had a goal.

Coaches Tyler Jorge and Kyri Marinos had trouble choosing players of the game, because everyone did so well, then decided Bennett, Peyton Bashar and Gruttadauria would receive this week’s honors.

On defense, Danika Curtin, Riley Connolly and Jocelyn VanStone were all strong, as Catalina Mozzo recorded another shutout.

In the midfield, Katie Pollock and Emily Meagher were positive contributors.

The Thunder had their success even without two of their better players, Olivia Flores and Remy DeNomme.

The U-12 Pumas also picked up their first win of the spring, beating Fairfield, 2-0, at Indian Ledge  Park.

Payton Corsi and Mikayla DePina scored the goals.

DePina tapped in a cross from Rachel Kapteina in the first half, while Corsi scored on a breakaway in the second half.

Fairfield will have a chance for retribution when the two teams meet again on May 14, during the opening round of the Connecticut Cup.

The U-11 boys played another strong game in a 5-2 loss to Bethel.

Luca Antonio slotted home both goals, while the coach’s players’ of the match were Ethan Sparks-Bakota, William Zaslow and Jake Biondi.

Gino Tarantino and William Zaslow shared time in the goal and made numerous saves.

Carson Brunone continually worked to push the ball up to the front line, while Matt Esposito played aggressively in the midfield.
