R.J. Reale, a fifth grader at Jane Ryan Elementary School and second-year BMX racer, clinched the state championship with a dramatic come-from-behind finish that was literally too close to call. After the dust settled and the line judges conferred it was a first place win for Reale.

The winning racer was awarded a plaque, a USA BMX Backpack and a Number One plate for his bike. The race was a finale to a series of 4 previous races held at each of Connecticut's four BMX tracks. The state finals were held at Falcon BMX in Meriden and featured racers from all over Connecticut. Trumbull has a BMX track located at Indian Ledge Park.
