The Trumbull Racquet Club 10 and Under Advance Junior Team Tennis (JTT) team won the USTA Connecticut District Championships on Aug 6.

The team, made up of Jackson Slattery, Ben Saxon, Tighe Brunetti, Luke Brodsky, Alexander Visser, Amelia Galin and Andre Letourneau, went 2-0 in the round-robin format to win their first USTA state championship.

Mike Slattery, 10U tennis director at Trumbull Racquet Club, coached the team throughout the season.

“It’s been great to see the work that we’ve been doing has paid off. Our players did a great job,” said Slattery, who is also on the Board of Directors of Evolve 9.

States were held at East Shore Park in New Haven. The site featured four 36-foot courts, specifically made for 10U tennis.

JTT competed against Milford Indoor Tennis and The Tennis Club at Chelsea Piers in the event. Trumbull won the matches by the scores of 24-6 and 23-14, respectively.

Ginny Dragone, manager of Trumbull Racquet Club, has supported all of the USTA JTT teams that play at Trumbull Racquet.

“USTA Junior Team Tennis has been great for our junior players,” she said. “Our Junior players get to play in a fun team atmosphere, which is something that tennis hasn’t traditionally offered for Juniors their age.”
