Boys soccer: Sixth-ranked Scorpions win two titles
The Trumbull United Scorpions U12 boys soccer team completed a successful fall season by winning both the CJSA Premier League and the SW District Travel League in the last two weeks of the season.
The Scorpions went undefeated (9-0) in the CJSA Premier League, playing teams all over Connecticut, by defeating a tough Bridgeport team with a score of 3-2 in the final game of the season in a battle of unbeatens at Indian Ledge Park.
Trumbull also topped Stamford 4-2 in the semifinal and Bethel 7-2 in the final of the SW District A-level Travel League. After playing 27 matches in league and tournament play this fall, the Scorpions finished the season 25-1-1.
Led by a solid defense in Hayden Brill, Jack Carlos, Kevin Seymour, Jack DiGiovanni, Christian Pizzicarola and Nate Beldoro, a balanced and effective scoring attack of Kyle Kegan, Owen Bull, Dylan Moreira, Logan Blazer, Stefan Cordas and Christian Moura. and superb goaltending by Sean Newmark and Jason Lambert, the Scorpions followed up on their CT Cup victory in 2016 with another solid performance.
Their almost perfect record over 27 games and outscoring of opponents 160-41, resulted in the team being ranked No. 6 among 130 teams in the state.
All 14 boys on the roster, who attend Madison, Hillcrest and Jane Ryan, contributed to the team’s success, which can be attributed to the leadership of coach Mark Moura.
