The American Platform Tennis Association’s 2017 PNC Steel City Open was a great way to start the new season for the men’s team of Juan Arraya and Jeffrey Morneau, and the women’s team of Trumbull’s Liz Cruz and Gabriela Niculescu on Oct. 20 in Washington, Missouri.

The women’s team of Cruz and Niculescu from Norwalk defeated 31 other teams, including Cynthia Dardis from Stamford and Amy Shay from Wilton in the finals to take home first place.

Arraya, from Old Greenwich and Morneau from East Longmeadow (Mass.) rose above 50 other teams at the first Grand Prix of the 2017-2018 season to take home first place, as they defeated the team of John Hughes, Enfield, and Marc Powers, New York (N.Y.) in the finals.

The next Grand Prix Series Tournament will be at the Chicago Charities Men’s and Women’s PCQ/NRT in Chicago from Nov. 3-5.
