The Ace Kickers, Trumbull Racquet Club’s 3.5 Women’s USTA team, earned a spot in the USTA Connecticut District Championships. The Ace Kickers went 9-0 in their local league play to qualify for the championships, which will take place at various locations from Aug. 2-4.

Co-Captains Norma Zwart and Meredith Dommu led the undefeated Ace Kickers through the 2013 season.

Zwart and Dommu were rivals in previous seasons, but decided to combine the best of their teams.

“With so many talented teams in the Southern Connecticut League, we felt that we would improve our chances of making it farther in the post season if we combined our two teams,” Zwart said. “It’s been a great season, and everyone has enjoyed getting to know one another.”

Ginny Dragone, Manager of Trumbull Racquet Club, supports all of the USTA League teams that play at Trumbull Racquet.

“USTA League play is an integral part of our business,” Dragone said. “The Ace Kickers did a great job this season, and we wish them the best in the District Championships.”

Kate Mazackova, Trumbull tennis professional, helped lead the team through their undefeated season.

“There were a few matches that went down to the wire, but we did a great job in using what Coach Kate taught us,” Zwart said. “We loved having Coach Kate in our corner.  She has given the team a lot of great tips that have helped us all season long.”

The USTA Connecticut District Championships will feature the winners from local league play from Southern Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut and Vermont districts. The winners will earn a place at the USTA New England Section Championships held Aug. 16-18.
