On Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Geary family will host the Fifth Annual Click It for Cassie Softball Tournament at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. The rain date will be Sunday, June 16. Twelve softball teams from around Fairfield County will compete for prizes. There will be plenty of food throughout the day, provided by Rudy and Cindy’s Janinez and the Pickles Food Truck, and a variety of baked goods made by Cassie’s friends. This year, the Gearys welcome sponsors POKO Partners, Fairfield County Bank and Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. who are helping to offset the cost of this fundraiser. There will be t-shirts, beach bags and magnets for sale, and Click It for Cassie bumper stickers will be given away to promote seatbelt awareness. All proceeds will go to the Click It for Cassie Foundation. Anne and Tom Geary started the foundation in 2008 to bring attention to the life-saving importance of wearing seat belts. They lost their 17-year-old daughter, Cassie, when she lost control of her car in bad weather and was killed due to blunt trauma injuries. The police told her parents that if she had been wearing her seat belt, she would have survived. The Click It for Cassie bumper sticker, in the shape of a seat belt, has gained in popularity since 2008. The Geary family’s goal has been to bring the importance of wearing seat belts to drivers, especially teens. The Cassie message did just that in 2009 when four of Cassie’s classmates and Click It for Cassie volunteers walked away from an accident in which their SUV rolled over. There were no serious injuries, as all were wearing their seat belts.
