Support children in need — donate books at Bridgeport Bluefish game
On Sunday May 18, the Bridgeport Bluefish and the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County will join forces to collect books for local children in need.
Bluefish fans are encouraged to bring gently used books that are appropriate for children birth through 8th grade to the game, in support of the Junior League’s “Healthy Families, Healthy Futures,” school readiness community programs. The Junior League will be on hand at the game where attendees can bring the books or make financial donations. This year, the Junior League has already collected and distributed more than 9,500 books on behalf of partners United Way of Coastal Fairfield County and Read to Grow.
A portion of the ticket sales benefits the Junior League and its community projects. Tickets can be purchased for $11/person in advance at http://bit.ly/JuniorLeagueBluefish (code JLEFC).
First pitch for the game, versus local rivals the York Revolution, is at 1 p.m. Opera-trained Junior League member Stephanie Donley Jackson will sing the national anthem. Friends of the League, Melissa Ellis and the Ellis Family, will throw out the first pitch.
