A golf tournament that will help provide mental health services to young people, in memory of a hometown hero, is now open for registration.

The third annual Mary’s Fund Golf Classic is on Monday, June 22, is at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull.

Proceeds will go to Mary’s Fund at Fairfield County’s Community Foundation to help Fairfield County children and teens receive quality mental health care, particularly those lacking access or the ability to pay. Mary’s Fund was established in memory of Trumbull resident Mary Sherlach, the school psychologist at Sandy Hook Elementary School who was killed in the Dec. 14 2012 shooting.

Mary’s Fund is dedicated to continuing her work of providing mental health services to children and teens.

“The events of December 14, 2012, left a huge hole in many lives,” said William Sherlach, Mary’s husband of 31 years. “Mary’s Fund enables our family to concentrate efforts in an area Mary deemed to be critical, but hard to find, for many of today’s children. We will be able to continue her work for years to come, with many successes along the way.”

Mary’s Fund Golf Classic has raised more than $160,000 since its inception in 2013. Organizers are hoping to raise an additional $70,000 with this year’s tournament.

Golfers can tee off at 7 a.m. for the morning round or noon for the afternoon round, and attend a cocktail reception and dinner. A raffle and auction will be held as well as contests for hole-in-one, longest drive and closest to the pin. Live and silent auction items include a tour of the long-running hit series NCIS studio in California with a meet and greet with actors, a Yankee’s suite package with choice of game, and a one-year membership to Hermitage Club, a private mountain ski and golf resort.

Tashua Knolls Golf Course can accommodate up to 128 players, as well as various corporate and group sponsorships.

Title sponsorships are available at $10,000. Other sponsorship options include, but are not limited to, hole sponsors (limited to one per hole; $500); driving range ($500); putting green ($500); carts ($500); and other amenities.

The entry fee is $250 per player and $1,000 per foursome, and includes a round of golf (morning or afternoon), cart, lunch, food and an open bar upon completion of the round. A limited number of dinner-only tickets are also available for $100.
