Auriemma to speak at Celebrity Breakfast
The St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound Celebrity Breakfast is set for Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, located at 1070 Main Street in Bridgeport.
The event will include a silent and live auction of sports memorabilia, breakfast, sports commentary and the drawing for the 2013 SWIM Car Raffle.
For more information, contact the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation at (203) 576-5451 or visit swimacrossthesound.org.
Approximately 450 people are expected to attend the event to hear the legendary Geno Auriemma, head coach of women’s basketball at the University of Connecticut. Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in college basketball in his 28 years as head coach at UConn.
During his tenure, Auriemma has transformed the program into the standard and benchmark by which all others are measured, both on and off the court.
On the court, his success includes seven national championships and complete dominance in the Big East Conference, where the Huskies have garnered 36 combined Big East regular season and tournament titles since his arrival. Off the court, success means a flawless graduation rate.
Each table sponsor will serve as a Celebrity Waiter for their friends and colleagues. In return, the waiters hope to earn a $100 tip from each of them that will also be donated to the SWIM.
Individual tickets for the Breakfast are $100 each and a table sponsorship, which includes a table for 10, is available for $500.
The SWIM’s 2013 Car Raffle will come to a close at the breakfast with the winning ticket being drawn at the event.
This year’s prize is a 2013 Nissan Juke SL, donated by Mario D’Addario – Cadillac, Nissan, Buick, Pontiac, GMC of Shelton and William B. Meyer, Inc. of Stratford.
The car raffle is expected to raise approximately $60,000 to benefit the SWIM and the Mario and Irma D’Addario Hypertension Fund at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
The Fund spreads awareness and provides free blood pressure screening and information to the public every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Wellness Booth in the lobby at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Cholesterol and glucose screenings are also provided at the booth on Wednesday.

People’s United Bank is proud to support the community programs and services offered by St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound, whichh is a charitable, grass roots organization run by the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation of Bridgeport.
Since 1987, the SWIM has had a unique niche, providing cancer education, screening and prevention programs at low- or no-cost for the uninsured and underinsured.
In addition, the SWIM helps individual cancer patients on a case-by-case basis with specific needs, such as the funding of wigs and prostheses, medication assistance, free transportation to treatments and appointments, day-care scholarships, support groups and more.
The charity raises funds through events such as the SWIM Marathon, Breast Cancer Luncheon, Walk/Run for Cancer and Prostate Cancer Celebrity Dinner.
Wherever possible, the SWIM covers costs and expenses of events through corporate sponsorships, and staffing overhead is covered by the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation.
The SWIM’s main area of reach is eastern Fairfield County, but outreach programs extend to other areas of Connecticut with the SWIM’s Smokestoppers and Mobile Mammography Programs and annual fund raisers for New Haven County, as well as support for Connecticut’s first responders and correction officers with cancer.
The state-wide SWIM’s Smokestoppers program has reached more than 140,000 children and adults.
The SWIM raised $2.6 million in the 2012 fiscal year and helps more than 20,000 people annually.
