Saint Michael's College women's basketball junior Alyssa Breunig from Trumbull landed a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the cycle ending on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Breunig claimed the first accolade of her career when she turned in career highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes during a victory over Vermont Technical College, which was ranked 13th in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II national poll. Breunig shot 7-for-14 from the floor, including 3-for-6 from three-point range, while adding two steals, an assist and a block. It was the first double-double of her career. After coming off the bench in her first 28 career games, Breunig averaged 8.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals while starting the last five contests, shooting 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range and 41.7 percent overall. Her season figures of 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 38.7 percent three-point shooting are all career highs, as she is 17th in the NE10 in rate of success from beyond the arc. The Purple Knights, 3-7 overall and 1-6 in NE-10 play, break until heading to Western New York for two games in early January, beginning with Roberts Wesleyan College on Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. Breunig captained both the Trumbull High volleyball and basketball teams. All-FCIAC in both, and All-State in volleyball, she was named Trumbull's Female Athlete of the year and earned Connecticut AAU Girls' Basketball Leadership Award senior year.
