The St. Joseph boys basketball team fell to non-conference foe Kolbe Cathedral, 46-44, in overtime in the first game of the Jack Smyth Memorial Classic in Stamford on Monday. The Cadets and the Cougars played a very physical game throughout. St. Joseph led 8-5 after one quarter and took a 20-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. After outscoring Kolbe Cathedral 14-5 in the third quarter to take a 34-26 lead, the Cougars held the Cadets scoreless for nearly six minutes in the fourth while going on a 14-0 run to take a 40-34 lead. After senior guard Omar Telfer made a pair of free throws to close the gap, Kolbe Cathedral added a free throw to extend the lead to 41-36. After a basket by the Cadets and a defense stop, freshman Paul Fabbri made a 3-pointer from the right corner to knot the score at 41. The Cadets had a chance to win in regulation, as Camren Menefee\u2019s last second floater clanked off the side of the rim. In overtime the Cougars outscored St. Joseph, 5-3. Menefee finished with a team high 14 points and nine rebounds. Telfer added six points, three rebounds, four assists, and a steal. The Cadets will play Prince Tech at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
