Trumbull High placed third in the Commack County Duals in New York on Saturday, Jan. 9, as coach Niko Filippakis’ Eagles went 3-2 with wins over host Commack (41-36), Freeport (49-30) and West Hampton Beach (42-28). Mempham (44-26) and North Babylon (51-16) defeated the Eagles, tied for third with Fairfield Warde in the state polls.

Matt Ryan at 106 pounds earned a 6-2 decision, Tristan Haviland at 113 won an 11-2 major decision, Adam Giammattei recorded a 3:30 fall at 132 and Colin Briganti won a 12-9 decision at 160 points versus North Babylon.

Christopher Smaniotto (forfeit at 106), Haviland (1:16 pin), Giammattei (6-0 decision), Dante Montanaro (16-0 technical fall at 138), Brian Wallace (1:39 pin at 145), Joey Ryan (2:27 pin at 170), Matt Alegi (forfeit at 195) and Desmond Washington (3:50 pin at heavyweight) notched victories versus Mempham.

Matt Ryan won a 12-0 major decision versus West Hampton Beach, a 15-0 technical fall against Commack and a 13-2 major decision over Commack.

Haviland added a pin in 2:27 against West Hampton Beach and a 3:00 pin versus Freeport.

Michael Mirmina at 126 had a 1:02 pin against West Hampton Beach and a 43-second fall versus Freeport.

Washington had a 1:43 pin versus Commack.

Joey Ryan pinned in 1:02 against Commack and in 5:15 versus Freeport.

Wallace pinned in 4:26 versus Freeport.

Briganti had a 3-2 decision versus Freeport.

Alegi pinned in 5:22 against Freeport.
