Trumbull High’s Tristan Haviland captured the New England wrestling championship at 113 pounds on Saturday at the Providence Career and Technical Center in Rhode Island.

A junior, Haviland defeated Cole Wyman from Brockton, Mass. 3-2 in the finals. Wyman had defeated Danbury High's Jakob Camacho, 9-7, in the semifinals.

Haviland advanced with a 5-3 victory over South Windsor’s Devon Schoenberger in his semifinal.

Haviland is the first wrestler in program history to take home the New England title.

Trumbull placed 10th out of 155 schools.

Michael Mirmina (126 pounds), Dante Montanaro (138 pounds) and Desmond Washington (heavyweight) posted wins for the Eagles.
