Wrestling: Top-ranked Danbury defeats No. 8 Trumbull

Eighth-ranked Trumbull High met top-ranked Danbury High on Wednesday, with the visiting Hatters earning a 49-23 decision.

Trumbull dominated the lower weights for coach Charlie Anderson.

Michael Longo scored a 5-4 decision over Kai Idell at 106 pounds. Travis Longo pinned Liam Knight in 48 seconds of their 113-pound bout. At 120 pounds, Jack Ryan decisioned Tyler Johnson 5-2.

Danbury won six of the next seven weight classes.

Ryan Jack pinned Jonathan Kosak in 4:17 at 126 and Kyle Fields pinned Sean Capalbo in 35 seconds at 132.

Trumbull’s Matt Ryan recorded a 17-1 win by technical fall over Logan Kovacs at 132 pounds.

The Hatters’ Ben Leblanc had a 10-3 decision over Will Holmes at 145, Jaylen Hawkins scored a 12-2 major decision over George Bomann at 152, Tyrell Jones pinned Ben Cousins in 2:59 at 160 and Jesse Patton pinned Jason Mercado in 4:31 at 170.

Joe Palmieri got the Eagles back on the board with a 3:43 pin of Billy Rojas at 182 pounds.

Danbury took the upper weights with Montez Osbey pinning Robert DeJesus in 1:01 at 195, D.J. Donovan winning by first-period fall over Mitchell Russo at 220 and heavyweight Jordan Agosto pinning Matthew Ryan in 1:29.

The Eagles’ Michael Longo posted an 8-1 decision over Abbott Tech’s team-of-one Jake DeFonce at 106 pounds.
