Weekly HS roundup: Cadets laxmen in FCIACs

St. Joseph dropped a 9-6 decision to host Ridgefield High in the FCIAC boys lacrosse quarterfinals on May 26.

Coach Joe Izzo’s sixth-seeded Cadets will take an 11-6 record into the state tournament.

Ryan Corcoran had three goals to lead St. Joseph, which took a 6-5 lead into the final period.

Travis Yoguez, Peter Bashar and Rick Giordano scored the other goals. Josiah Wilson had two assists. Mike Braddick made 10 saves

Trumbull boys volleyball

Trumbull defeated Danbury High on Senior Night May 21. Brian Mego had 12 digs, five service points, including three aces, in the 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 win.

Carlos Sevilla had 12 digs for coach Tamara DeBerry’s Eagles (6-11). Max Martel had 10 digs and seven service points and Matt Angelo had 11 digs and three kills.

St. Joseph volleyball

St. Joseph improved to 9-7 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Bassick of Bridgeport on May 21. Connor Gallagher had 16 assists, two kills and a pair of aces for coach Marty Dempsey’s Cadets.

Erik Lewicki had eight assists four kills and two aces in the 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 victory.

Kevin Stapleton had 11 kills and seven aces against the Lions (3-14).

St. Joseph defeated Harding of Bridgeport, 3-0, on May 22, to improve its record to 10-7. The Cadets were led by Gallagher (10 assists), Lewicki (six aces) and Stapleton (seven kills).

Trumbull softball

Samantha Platz blanked Staples of Westport, 2-0, and coach Cary Nadel’s team ended its regular season 13-7 overall and 12-6 in the FCIAC. Platz struck out 10 batters and Staples dipped to 8-12.

Christie Costello, Kristine Liptack and Emily Clark had two hits each.

Harleigh Kaczegowicz (three stolen bases), Krissy Szabo and Lauren Zielinski had one hit each.

St. Joseph girls lacrosse

St. Joseph lost to Fairfield Ludlowe, 20-7, on May 21. Nicole Healy had three goals and Lindsay Lucifora scored twice. Katherine Adams and Mackenzie Spadinger also scored.
