The Trumbull High girls track team capped its outstanding regular season with wins over town rival St. Joseph and Harding of Bridgeport on May 19.

Trumbull celebrated after the home meet by honoring  its seniors, who led the Eagles to a 10-1 record, with that defeat coming by three points to Staples of Westport.

Several Trumbull girls have qualified for postseason competition and will run at the FCIACS on Tuesday, May 27, in Danbury.

In the tri-meet, Haley Mocker, Katie Dunn, Kathleen Kauffman and Katherine Larkin ran a 50.33 to win the 4x100 relay.

Tara Oliver was a triple winner, taking the pole vault (7-6), the discus (75-9) and the long jump (14-2.5).

Kate Romanchick and Foley placed first in two events. Romanchick won the 1600 in 5:41.2 and the 3200 in 12:43.5. Foley took home firsts in the 400 in 58.9 and the 200 in 26.3.

Meghan Malloy was first for Trumbull in the high jump (4-10) and Melissa Wydra won the javelin throw (86-4).

For St. Joseph, Jada Harris was first in the 100 hurdles (15.7) and triple jump (33-2.5), Mariah Provenzano in the 100 (12.9), Megan Kacenski in the 300 hurdles (48.6), Christina Sylvester in the 800 (2:41.6) and Julia Spinelli in the shot put (30-3).

St. Joseph boys golf

St. Joseph lost to Danbury, 165-193 on May 20. John Docarmo shot a round of 38 to lead the Cadets (5-13) against the Hatters (8-8). Tommy Flynn had a 51 and Nick Stauber and Mike Derbyshire had 52s.

Trumbull boys tennis

Trumbull’s top two singles players won exciting sets when the Eagles dropped a 5-2 decision to New Canaan on May 19. Trumbull is 7-8 on the season. New Canaan is 9-6.

Nick Marchenko, a freshman, met New Canaan senior Spencer Lambdin at No. singles and worked his way to a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory. At second singles, Cameron Hutchins, a sophomore, defeated Rams’ senior Michael Nartnett, 7-6, 6-4. Reece Sowka, a freshman, lost his third singles match to senior Digby Philpott, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

St. Joseph boys tennis

St. Joseph defeated Norwalk, 6-1, on May 19. JP Gschwind, Parker Diamond, Trent Navye and Mike Morin won at singles. Tom Santilli and Joe Prutting took No. 1 doubles and Alex Trefz and Owen Francis won at second doubles.

Frosh-soph track

St. Joseph’s girls track team had a successful day at a Freshman-Sophomore Meet in Darien on May. 17.

Jada Harris was first in the 100 hurdles, first in the triple jump and placed second in the 300 hurdles.

Lindsey Savko captured first in the 100 meter and took second in the 200.

Christina Sylvester was fifth in the 800 and Amanda Ramos fifth in the 300 hurdles.

St. Joseph softball

Mikaela Mallozzi and Lauren Blose had three hits each to lead St. Joseph past Bridgeport Central 13-0 in Trumbull on May 19. Nicole Williams no-hit the Hilltoppers, striking out 12 batters, as the fourth-ranked Cadets improved to 16-1.

Melissa Bike hit a home run and St. Joseph defeated Trinity Catholic from Stamford, 8-1, on May 14. Tori Ceballos and Madeline Meier had two hits each.

St. Joseph girls tennis

St. Joseph and Norwalk High met in a highly charged FCIAC match on May 19, with the Bears winning 4-3.

Samantha Rudini (6-1, 6-2) and Lauren Hensley (6-1, 6-4) won at first and second singles for the Cadets before the match heated up.

St. Joseph’s Nell Condron at third singles lost 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to Andrea Khattabi and then Kathryn Fitzsimmons went three sets with Alison Mason, falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles play was more of the same, as the Cadets’ No. 1 team of Olivia Hensley and Elizabeth Banquer rallied back to win 6-7, 7-5, 7-6.
