Coach Joe Della Vecchia’s St. Joseph High football team went on the road and defeated Wilton High, 44-20, on Friday.

The Cadets, No. 3 in the state media poll, improved to 5-0, while the Warriors fell to 3-2.

Jordan Vazzano threw for three touchdowns and Mufasa Abdul-Basir ran for a pair of scores for St. Joseph, which took a 16-7 lead into the half.

After a scoreless first period, Mark Hirschbeck put the Cadets on the board with a 3-yard reception and Kevin Bortnick kicked the first of his six PATS.

A bad snap resulted in a safety and a 9-0 lead, before Abdul-Basir, who ran for 161 yards, found paydirt from 11 yards out.

Wilton got on the board before the break and added the first score of the third quarter to close within 16-14.

Vazzano, who threw for 289 yards, hit Shane Miller for a 28-yard touchdown and followed that with a 13-yard connection to Alex Pinto for a 30-14 lead after three.

Abdul-Basir scored on a 3-yard run and Joey Civitella found the end zone from 2 yards out to push the advantage to 44-14.
