Updated Gymnastics: Trumbull opens season at Wilton High

Trumbull High began the season with a visit to FCIAC opponent Wilton last Thursday night. The host Warriors, in their second meet of the slate, prevailed 134.1-127.25. Wilton’s Jess Olin won the all around with a score of 35.45.

“I think we did well. We have a young team this year — a lot of freshmen,” said Trumbull coach Celina Huber, who has five ninth-graders on the roster. “We have room to improve. It’s going to get better each meet.”

Trumbull’s Merritt Stevenson finished first on bars with a score of 8.85, second on vault with a 9.0 and third on the floor with an 8.75. Stevenson placed third in the all around with a score of 34.5.

Leah Cody had a 7.9 on vault, 7.2 on bars, 8.0 on beam and 8.1 on the floor.

Farrah Hass scored a 7.5 on vault, 6.3 on bars and 7.55 on the floor.

Allie Koch had a 7.7 vaulting. Gillian Primavera recorded a 7.8 on vault, a 7.35 on bars, 8.1 on beam and 7.8 on the floor.

Rachel Kaptenia scored a 6.6 on bars, 6.2 on beam and 7.1 on floor.

Maggie Williamson had a 7.4 on vault and 7.5 on beam.

Talia Lalli had a 7.55 on bars, 7.7 on beam and 7.45 on floor.

“We did really well on beam,” said Trumbull captain Chantal Boyd, sidelined with an injury at the start of the year.

St Joseph had two competitors in the meet: Lindsay Capobianco and Schuyler Tomey.

Capobianco and Tomey finished one-two in the balance beam event with scores of 9.2 and 9.0, respectively. Tomey was second in the all around with a four-event score of 34.9.

“It’s really fun having St Joe’s on the road with us,” said Huber, adding that the girls from Trumbull and St. Joe’s are friends.
