Trumbull United’s newest team, the U19 Rush, will play its first boys soccer game under the lights at Indian Ledge Park vs Bridgeport Premier on Friday, May 16, at 8 p.m.

Another home game will follow on Wednesday, May 21, at 8:15 vs Beachside 19’s (a team comprised of Prep school and post-grad students from the area).

The Rush  was formed by Lloyd Weinstein and Matt Chase, who put down the foundation a few years back with another Trumbull United team and a recent indoor team featuring many of the same plyers.

“This team comes together at a time of transition for many of the players, who came from Beachside, South Central Premier, Trumbull United and a few other clubs,” Weinstein said.

“The Beachside and South Central players left clubs that merged and now play in the US Developmental Academy league, which provides play for those between 13-18 years of age.”

Nine Trumbull High players from the 2011 FCIAC championship team are featured including:  Goalie Nick Weinstein (Bryant), Shay Neary (Endicott), Liam O’Sullivan ( Quinnipiac),  Jon DeJesus (Endicott), Matt O’Brien (Siena), Stephon Stewart (Bridgeport), Tim Johnson (Marist), Zac Chase (Bentley) and Marshall Kaplan (Wells).

Other Trumbull team members are Davey Bruton (Georgetown) and Munir Qaddourah (Ohio Wesleyan).

Bryan Amaris (UMass-Lowell), Clarence Burnett (Bridgeport), Dylan Hoy (Wesleyan), Jake Lamar (Bryant), Nick LaPenna (Curry), Robert Valente (Fairfield), Jordan Visosky (Dickinson) and Sam Wilson (Gordon) round out the roster.

The Rush will play in the CJSA U-19 league, along with various friendly matches and the Oakwood Premier Invitational Tournament on Memorial Day weekend.

Trumbull United encourages the soccer community to come out and support its new team. It will provide young players a good opportunity to see soccer played at a high level by many of the area’s best players.
