The Trumbull High softball team lost 4-1 to Lauralton Hall in its season opener in Milford on Wednesday.

Maddie Festa singled home Christie Costello in the top of the third, after the Crusaders took a 2-0 lead in the first.

Festa twice left the bases loaded, but Lauralton tacked on two more runs in the fifth.

“She threw the ball real well,” Trumbull coach Charlie Judge said of Festa. “And, our defense played extremely well for a young team. We will get better.”

Jayme Thompson doubled in the second inning, Kristen Szabo doubled in the fifth, but both were stranded.

Kristine Liptack doubled and Emily Clarke and Nicole Chiappetta had infield singles to load the bases in the sixth, but Haley Congdon pitched out of the jam.
