Trumbull wins 10th straight
Trumbull Post 141 won its 10th straight Zone 4 American Legion baseball game with a 6-4 victory over visiting Westport on Wednesday.
Manager Brett Conners’ team is now 17-4 on the season. Westport fell to 7-9.
Nikko Arganese (3-1) pitched into the sixth inning, allowing only one run on two hits.
Kris DiCocco had two hits and drove in two runs for Trumbull. Justin Waldek had two hits.
Westport’s Sean Clarke hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
Post 141 scored four runs in the first inning.
Simon Whiteman walked, stole second, and went to third on Waldek’s single before he scored on Zach Sagar’s sacrifice fly.
Matt Fasoli doubled Waldek home. After Chris O’Brien reached on an error, DiCocco singled over third base to plate Fasoli.
Dino DiGirolamo’s sacrifice fly completed the scoring.
Trumbull added a run in the second inning.
Frank LePegna led off with a single and Whiteman walked. After a double steal, Sagar walked with one out to load the bases for
Fasoli, who earned an RBI with a fielder’s choice grounder.
In the fourth, Waldek bunted his way on base before Sagar hit into a fielder’s choice.
O’Brien’s two-out double set the table for DiCocco’s RBI single.
Westport scored a run in the fifth and added three in the seventh before Peter Rousso started a 1-6-3 double play from Waldek to O’Brien to end the game.
Trumbull will look for the three-game sweep today when Westport visits Trumbull High at 5:45.
