Trumbull upsets South Windsor to gain quarterfinals

Coach Tamara DeBerry took her 12th seeded Trumbull High girls volleyball team on the road Thursday and the Eagles upended No. 5 South Windsor, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) in a Class LL second round state tournament game.

Trumbull (14-6) will play at No. 4 Amity High (18-3) in the quarterfinals in Woodbridge on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Spartans defeated No. 20 Conard from West Hartford, 3-0.

Alyssa Breunig had 13 kills and Mia Hampford had 12 kills to lead the attack versus South Windsor (17-4).

Sydney Adams had 32 assists, with Kristen Peterson (20 digs) keying the passing game.

Hampford had 20 service winners, including three aces.
