The Trumbull High boys volleyball team lost to Masuk High, 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 15-7) on April 17.

Zack Yellen had 25 kills, seven blocks, 16 digs, and five assists for the Eagles (1-3).

“He is by far one of the most superior players, even in the FCIAC,” Trumbull coach Tamara DeBerry said of Yellen. “We just have to put the proper pieces around him in order to get over the hump.”

John Brindisi had 27 digs and four service points. Lucas Ferreira had 25 assists, 11 service points and seven digs.

The Eagles bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over Bridgeport Central on Monday to improve to 2-3.

“We have some kids who have never played before,” DeBerry said. “So I’m trying to get them acclimated to the lineup and just volleyball in general. But they have a lot of potential.”

The Eagles travel to Monroe on Friday for a return bout with Masuk (3-2).

“I’m very hopeful for the future,” DeBerry said. “It’s starting to come together. We just have to keep forging forward. We have some things we need to work on, certain skills. But right now it’s just team camaraderie and gelling.”
