Trumbull softball breaks through late to upend Warriors 7-3

The Trumbull High School softball team scored five runs in the final four innings to break a 2-2 tie and come away with the 7-3 victory over Wilton High School yesterday.

After the Eagles took the quick 2-0 to end the first inning, Wilton came back to tie the game with two runs in the second. It remained that way until the fourth, when Trumbull took the lead for good with two more runs.

Although the Warriors plated a runner in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-3, THS struck again in the top of the seventh by scoring three runs to ice the game.

Jayme Thompson led the way for Trumbull, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Not to be outdone was Harleigh Kaczegowicz, who also finished 2-for-4 on the day, but added a triple and one run scored. Lea Thompson finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, while teammate Taylor Brown went 2-f0r-4 with a double, two runs scored and one run batted in.

Ally Szabo was the starting pitcher who picked up the victory, finishing the day with six hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven and walking three.
