Trumbull seeded fourth in FCIAC boys basketball

Trumbull High went on the road Wednesday and defeated the Greenwich High boys basketball team, 60-53.

Coach Buddy Bray’s Eagles finished the regular season with a 14-6 overall record. They are seeded fourth for the FCIAC tournament with a 12-6 record and will play No. 5 Stamford (12-6) in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe High.

The loss ended Greenwich’s hopes of a postseason berth, as the Cardinals finished with 7-13, 6-12 in the FCIAC.

Trumbull took a 17-13 lead after one period, but Greenwich tied things at 28 at the half. The Eagles led 47-43 after three quarters.

Eddie McElroy led Trumbull with 23 points, with six of his baskets coming from beyond the three-point line.

Billy Brown scored 16 points and Rashard Rodriguez had 13.

McElroy grabbed five rebounds and had four assists, Brown and Ben McCullough had seven boards.

Griffin Golden scored 11 points and Leonel Hyatt had 10 for the Cardinals.
