The Trumbull High wrestling team went where no other squad of Eagles have gone before, when coach Niko Filippakis' grapplers placed second in the Class LL Championships held at Trumbull High on Saturday.

Trumbull placed second behind only Danbury High, as 27 teams waged battle for winners in 14 weight classes.

Cross Cannone captured the 113-pound title with a 3-1 victory over South Windsor's Justin Healey.

Brandon Liscinsky at 126 pounds and Brandon Fulco at 160 pounds made their senior seasons memorable as each advanced to their first state final.

Liscinsky dropped a 1-0 decision to Southington's Nathan Solomon.

Fulco lost by first-period fall to Danbury's Juan Garcia.

The trio led a brigade of eight wrestlers, who qualified for next weekend's State Open in New Haven.

Kevin Cecio placed fourth at 132 pounds, Tim Douthit was fourth at 170 pounds, Erik Mercado was fifth at 195 pounds, John Miolene was fifth at 220 pounds and David Briganti was sixth at 152 pounds.
