Trumbull ousted from states by Ludlowe

The Trumbull High softball team lost to Fairfield Ludlowe, 14-2, in the first round of the Class LL state tournament on Wednesday.

Coach Charlie Judge’s 19th-seeded Eagles finished the season at 12-9. The 14th-seeded Falcons (15-6) will play at third-seeded Daniel Hand (18-3) in Madison on Thursday.

Trumbull scored its two runs in the seventh inning.

Emily Clark led off the rally with Trumbull’s fifth hit, and Megan Thaler and Jayme Thompson followed with base hits to load the bases.

Lauren Zielinski’s gapper to left-center field was chased down by Ludlowe’s Gillian Kennedy, to turn an extra-base hit into a sacrifice fly.

Christie Costello plated the second run of the frame with a single to right field.
