Trumbull loses to Warde on gridiron
The Trumbull High football team lost to Fairfield Warde, 23-7, at McDougall Stadium on Friday night.
The Eagles took the lead on Stephen Nagy’s one-yard run and Lance Bragg’s PAT in the first quarter.
Warde tied the game on the first of Brandon Bisack’s three touchdown passes and scored in the next three periods.
The Falcons made it 10-3 at the half and extended their advantage to 17-7 after three quarters.
Adam Angelucci had 109 yards on 19 carries for Trumbull (0-2).
Bisack completed 27-of-41 passes for 296 yards, as Warde improved to 2-0.
Trumbull got a nice performance from quarterback John McElroy after going with the sophomore exclusively from the second quarter on. McElroy and Nagy alternated snaps in the first quarter. McElroy ended up completing 12 of 23 passes for 113 yards and one interception. Nagy caught one of those passes after moving to receiver. Bragg led the way with four catches for 29 yards, while senior Niko Principi added three receptions for 36 yards.
The Eagles just couldn’t sustain a consistent offensive attack after its score on the opening drive.
