Trumlbull High lost to Staples High, 37-0, in Westport in an FCIAC football contest on Friday night.
Coach Bob Maffei’s Eagles are now 3-5 on the season, 3-4 in the FCIAC. Staples improved to 4-4 and 4-3 in the league.
Trumbull trailed 7-0 in the second quarter when starting quarterback John McElroy left the game with a banged up shoulder.
Stephen Nagy came in and looked to rally the Eagles from a 24-0 deficit and ran for a first down before exiting the field on a stretcher after being tackled and going to the turf in an awkward fashion with 4:05 remaining in the first half.
Staples added 10 points in the third quarter, including a school record-breaking 47-yard field goal by Paul Tricarico.
