Trumbull ice hockey falls to Wilton
Already having lost a half dozen one-goal games, Trumbull High’s boys hockey team suffered an equally, if not more significantly, difficult outcome in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Wilton High, at The Rinks at Shelton on Monday.
The loss dropped the Eagles, fighting to qualify for the Division II playoffs, to 6-13-0 with one game left — a makeup contest against North Branford (12-4-0).
Brady Jensen scored twice, and Jacob Liebowitz also scored in the loss.
Michael Cullen assisted Liebowitz’s game-tying tally 3:15 into the third period, making the score 2-2.
Wilton (8-10-0) reclaimed the lead only 1:28 later.
The Eagles again tied the game, with just 1:42 to go in regulation; moments after Jensen hit the post on a breakaway, he knotted the game at three apiece.
Wilton again had a quick answer, this time only 11 seconds later, then put the game away with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
