Trumbull grapplers earn Ludlowe Legends title

The ninth-ranked Trumbull High wrestling team improved its record to 20-2 when coach Niko Filippakas’ Eagles captured the Ludlowe Legends Dual’ title on Jan. 18.

Trumbull defeated Platt Tech of Milford (68-9), Branford (44-30), Ludlowe (50-30) and New Haven (61-9).

Cross Cannone, Kevin Cecio, Joey Ryan, Marcus Nieves, Connor Sollenberger and Andrew Marino each won all four of their matches. Ryan pinned all four of his opponents.

Tristan Haviland at 106 pounds won by 8-1 decision, 8-4 decision, lost by fall and at 113 pounds won a 14-2 major decision.

Dante Montanaro at 120 pounds won by 52-second fall, 19-4 technical fall, lost by pin and won by 1:53 fall.

Cannone at 126 pounds won by forfeit, 14-1 major decision, 15-0 techinical fall and by 1:20 pin.

Cecio at 132 pounds won by 19-4 techinical fall, 14-4 major decision, 3-2 decision and 1:05 fall.

Dorian Washington at 138 pounds won by 1:42 fall, lost via pin, won by 2:58 fall and with a pin in 1:52.

Stephen Briganti at 152 pounds won by forfeit, lost by fall, pinned in 51 seconds and added a 1:11 fall.

Ryan at 160 pounds won by 1:14 fall, 42-second fall, 2:28 fall and 1:36 fall.

Nieves at 170 pounds won by 1:06 fall, 11-0 major decision, 3:05 fall and 34-second fall.

Mohammed Othman at 182 pounds won by 3:02 fall, 43-second fall, forfeit, and lost a 13-8 decision.

Sollenberger at 195 pounds won by 2:53 fall, forfeit, 2:46 fall and 58-second fall.

Marino at 220 pounds had three forfeits before gettinbg a chance on the mat, where he pinned in 58 seconds.
