The Trumbull High girls and boys cross country team fared well at the FCIAC Championships at Waveny Park in New Canaan on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The girls placed 7th overall in the 4K, defeating Greenwich, Danbury, Fairfield Ludlowe, Norwalk, Stamford, St. Joseph and Harding.

Kate Romanchick, a freshman, finished first for Trumbull and 22nd overall to earn second-team All-FCIAC honors.

Her time of 16:01 was followed by Julie Provenzano 16:28, Olivia Nestro 16:41, Emily Tinnesz 17:31, Michelle Hesse 17:33, Rebeca Buck 17:41 and Paige Haviland 17:44.

The boys placed 8th out of 17 teams, outpointing Norwalk, Wilton, Stamford, Fairfield, St. Joseph, Brien McMahon, Westhill, Bassick and Harding.

Shane Romanchick, a junior, was first for the Eagles and 39th overall in the 5K with a time of 17:28.

Nick Grew ran a 17:43, Mitch Vecchione an 18:01, Taylor Auten an 18:27, Jake Cappelo an 18:36, Joseph Matera an 18:37 and JJ Pfohl a 19:07.

The Trumbull girls team will compete in the LL state meet on Saturday, Oct. 26, in Manchester.
