A resilient Trumbull High girls basketball team battled to the finish but came up short to Ridgefield, 32-29, in the Masuk Holiday Tournament’s opening round in Monroe on Saturday.

In a contest dominated by strong defenses from the start, both teams had trouble scoring thanks to forced turnovers and contested shots.

Trumbull’s Kalisse Eldridge scored nine points, Claudia Tucci had seven, Alyssa Breunig dropped in five, Amanda Pfohl and Taylor Brown each scored three, and Kate O’Leary added two. The Eagles fell to 3-2 overall.

Ridgefield’s Rebecca Lawrence and Jessica Camarda both scored eight, and Carly Mercede added seven in the win. The Tigers, who improved to 5-1, will face Masuk in the tourney title game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and the Eagles will take on Bethel High in the consolation game, and 5:15 pm.
