Trumbull defeats Fairfield in Legion baseball
Trumbull Post 141 pounded out 10 hits when manager Brett Conners’ Zone 4 American Legion baseball team defeated Fairfield, 4-1, at Trumbull High on Wednesday.
Trumbull (8-4) will visit Kiwanis Field to take on Fairfield (5-7) at 5:45 on Thursday in the rubber game of the three-game series.
Gaetano Ciambriello improved his record to 3-0 with a complete-game six-hitter. He struck out five and allowed a run in the fourth inning.
Matt Fasoli, Ben McCullough, Chris O’Brien and Zach Sagar had two hits each for Trumbull.
Zach Weinstein had three hits, including a double, for Fairfield.
Trumbull scored two runs in each the second and third inning.
Fasoli made his return from a back injury, suffered in game one of the season, noteworthy with a double off the left field fence in the second inning.
He scored on an error off the bat of Kris DiCocco, and McCullough singled DiCocco home.
With one out in the third inning, O’Brien singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Fasoli’s RBI hit.
DiCocco then singled, McCullough walked to load the bases, and Brian Hnatuk was hit by a pitch to garner the RBI and push the lead to 4-0.
Justin Consoli singled with one out in the Fairfield fourth.
Weinstein hit a double and walks to Jack Germain and Billy Goodchild plated a run.
Ciambriello posted a strikeout to leave the bases loaded.
