Trumbull, St. Joe's girls basketball CIAC pairing announced
The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference announced its pairing for the upcoming state tournaments in girls basketball and both Trumbull High School and St. Joseph High School will be in action next week.
The Trumbull Eagles enter the CIAC class LL tournament with a record of 15-5 in the regular season and will be the No. 13 seed in the playoffs. Steve Tobitsch's Trumbull team will start the tournament at home and will play the No. 20 seeded Lauralton Hall of Milford Tuesday night at 7.
The winner of the Trumbull vs. Lauralton Hall game will advance to the second round and battle the winner of the No. 4 seeded Norwich Free Academy vs. No. 29 seeded Darien High School game next Friday night.
The Eagles will be the home team is fellow FCIAC foe Darien pulls off the upset over NFA.
Overall in class LL, South Windsor is the top-seeded team, netting a record of 20-0. The trio of Wilton High School, Mercy High School and Norwich Free Academy each finished the regular season with a 19-1 record in the regular season and will be the second through fourth seeded teams in the class LL playoffs respectively.
In the CIAC class M tournament, St. Joseph High School enters the postseason with a 14-6 regular season record and has the No. 11 seed in the tournament. Like the Eagles, Chris Lindwall's team will host a first-round playoff game and battle No. 22 seeded Windham High School (11-9) Tuesday night at 7.
The winner of that game will advance to the next round and face the winner of the sixth-seeded Suffield High School vs. No. 27 seeded Northwestern at the highest seeded team.
In class M, the overall No. 1 seeded team is Morgan High School, with a record of 20-0, while Holy Cross is the second-seeded team with a 19-1 regular season mark. New London, with a record of 18-2, is the No. 3 seeded team.
In both the class M and class LL tournaments, the championship game will be held at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Also both tourneys have a plethora of FCIAC teams in the hunt for a state championships.
While St. Joseph is the lone FCIAC team in the class M tournament, there are a plethora of FCIAC teams joining Trumbull High in the class LL playoffs.
In addition to the Eagles, Wilton is the No. 2 seeded team, Fairfield Warde is the fifth-seeded team, Greenwich High is seeded eighth, Ridgefield is ninth, Stamford is the 10th seeded team, Fairfield Ludlowe sits as the No. 23 seeded team, Norwalk High is seeded 25th, Staples is 26th, Danbury High is the No. 28 seeded team and Darien rounds out the list of FCIAC teams as the No. 29 seeded team in class LL.
