The Trumbull Little League 11-year old Softball All-Star team captured the state championship on Sunday, July 17, at Nelligan Field in Ansonia.

It is the first-ever state championship won by a Trumbull Little League softball all-star team.

Facing elimination, Trumbull defeated West Haven in successive days to win the title.

After Trumbull opened the state tournament with a 16-6 victory over Torrington, the team fell to West Haven, 6-5. Trumbull rebounded to defeat Torrington, 10-5, to earn a spot in the state final against West Haven. On Saturday, July 15, Trumbull blanked West Haven, 10-0, to force the “if” game.

In Sunday’s championship, Trumbull jumped out to a 4-0 lead before West Haven closed the deficit to 6-5 in the fourth inning. Trumbull then exploded for nine unanswered runs to win 15-5.

Trumbull had advanced to the state tournament after capturing the District 2 title a week earlier.
