Trumbull Pisces impress at Age Group championships

The Trumbull Pisces wrapped up its season with an impressive performance at the Connecticut Age Group Long Course Championships this weekend at Wesleyan University.

The Age Groups are the final state championship meet of the season, with all of Connecticut’s fastest swimmers together. To qualify for the meet swimmers need to better the individual time standards set by the Connecticut Swimming and USA Swimming Associations.

Pisces head coach Bill Strickland said, “What an amazing end to an amazing season. Our Pisces swimmers saved their best for last, posting individual best times all weekend long.”

Trumbull had 13 swimmers qualify for the Age Group Championships: Caitlyn Dale, Jacqueline Dale, Loralai Dale, Rohit Gunda, Anna Haydostian, Alexander Ivanovich, Audrey Kehley, Claire Kehley, Cameron Kosak, Nicholas Paolella, Kristen Racicot, Elizabeth Stoezel and Sean Yu.

According to Pisces’ Team President Michael Redgate, “The Trumbull Pisces swimmers' continuous improvement is a true result of their hard work and our incredible head coach and his staff. Last long course season we achieved eighteen Age Group Championship cuts by six swimmers. This year to have sixty three AG cuts and four Eastern Zone cuts. The momentum and improvement has been continuous.”

Highlighting an outstanding weekend for the Trumbull squad were seven top-16 individual finishes and 11 outstanding team relay results. Strickland said, "As a coach I was so proud to see our kids and their facial expressions after their swims. With the Pisces Pride flowing in the pool and the smiles ear to ear it was just rewarding to watch them swim. Congratulations Pisces, you earned it."

The team now has a well-deserved break before returning to the pool for team tryouts on Sept. 12.
