Swimmers excel at State Open, Class LL meet
Trumbull High’s Sam Carley, Alex Ignatov, Josh Pavel and Miles Buroker finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:16.42, better than two seconds off their seed time, at the State Open Championships at Yale’s Kiphuth Pool on March 22.
Trumbull finished 10th. Greenwich won the team title, followed by Fairfield Prep and Pomperaug of Southbury.
Buroker placed 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.89.
Ignatov from was 19th in the 500 freestyle in 4:53.88.
Carley, Freddie Tamarkin, Nathan Stankevitz and Ignatov took 22nd in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.52.
Alex Rigione from St. Joseph posted a time of 49.49 to finish 24th in the 100 freestyle.
Trumbull’s Carley, Ignatov, Pavel and Buroker placed sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:18.81) at the Class LL championships at Wesleyan University in Middletown on March 19.
Carley, Tamarkin, Stankevitz and Ignatov took eighth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.06).
Rigione from St. Joseph was fifth in the 100 freestyle (48.61) and eighth in the 50 freestyle in 22.59.
Rich Boyd, Buroker, Chris Cerulli and Pavel placed 11th in the 200 medley relay in 1:44.14
Carley was eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:49.66) and 21st in the 100 butterly (51.73).
Ignatov was ninth in the 500 freestyle (4:52.69, five seconds better than seed).
Buroker was 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.68) and 11th in the 200 IM (1:58.08).
Pavel was 13th in the 50 freestyle (23.30) and 15th in the 100 freestyle (49.60).
Boyd was 23rd in the 100 backstroke (59.43) and Tamarkin 24th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.84).
