State final: St. Joe's leads Weston, 6-1, after 1st

St. Joseph boys lacrosse was able to get two goals to start off the Connecticut Class S boys lacrosse championship at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk on Saturday afternoon. And the Cadets kept up the pressure, finishing the first half up 6-1 over Weston.

After trading possessions for the first half of the first quarter, St. Joseph senior Preston Oullette opened the scoring on his own. And things started to take off for the Cadets.

Senior Peter Brashar then added another goal after picking up a rebound to make it 2-0 for the Cadets.

Austin Drimal scored Weston’s lone goal in the first half.

Goalies Mike Braddick of St. Joseph and Adam Byer of Weston both traded some good saves throughout the first quarter. But St. Joseph was able to figure out how to get past Byer. At the end of the first half, St. Joseph led in shots, 26-7.

In the second quarter, Weston narrowed the score on a goal by Austin Drimal. Minutes later, Ouellette put his second goal in the net (Mike Brennan had the assist).

Bashar had two goals in the first half for St. Joseph.  Mike Sudora helped break things open late in the 2nd half. Seconds before the half ended, Ouellette got his hat trick, putting the Cadets up 6-1.
