The St. Joseph High boys cross country team recorded two wins at Allen’s Meadow in Wilton on Sept. 30. The Cadets defeated Norwalk, 19-36, and Harding of Bridgeport, 15-45.  Wilton edged out St. Joseph, 26-30.

Junior James Mas was the top St. Joseph finisher, placing second overall in 16 minutes, 59 seconds.

Fellow junior Nick Zannis placed fourth in 17:35. Seniors Will Gallagher (6th, 18:22), Kyle O’Brien (7th, 18:36) and Evan Aldo (15th, 19:05) each ran strong races for St. Joseph. Freshman Ryan Haack (28th, 20:37) and Brian Dineen (38th, 21:13) both cracked into the top seven St. Joseph finishers.

“This was a very good all-around performance by our guys today,” said St. Joseph coach David Scrivines. “We were just four points off Wilton. Our work is cut out for us in the next two weeks (leading up to the FCIAC championships Oct. 16).”

Junior Nick Maltese placed 39th in 21:28 and senior Jack Guman placed 42nd in 21:57, while freshman Michael Pleszko placed 45th in 22:19.

Meanwhile, sophomore Nicholas Russo placed 52nd in 23:39, sophomore Camren Menefee placed 53rd in 24:23 and freshman Mark Kendziorski placed 54th in 24:24.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do in our conference and state championship meets,” said Scrivines. “We still have a lot of work to do, but our runners are looking forward to the challenge.”

St. Joseph wraps up its regular-season with a home meet on Tuesday, Oct. 7, against Danbury, Darien and Staples from Westport.
