The St. Joseph High baseball team posted a pair of victories to advance to the Class M state tournament quarterfinals.

Coach Jim Chaves 11th-seeded Cadets (17-6) will visit third-seeded North Branford (19-3) on Saturday at 3:30.

St. Joseph opened states with an 18-2 victory over Prince Tech and then knocked off sixth-seeded Kaynor Tech (15-4) by a 12-0 margin.

Ryan Moran hit a grand slam home run in the Cadets’ 12-run fifth-inning uprising in the win over Prince Tech.

Ishmael Herrera and Matt Batten drove in three runs each.

In the win over Kaynor Tech, the Cadets were led at the plate by Batten (three hits), Mark Hirschbeck (two hits, two RBIs) and Mike Pulaski (two-run single).

Jake Amoroso improved to 6-1, as he pitched into the sixth striking out nine.
