Coach Chris Watts’ St. Joseph High boys basketball team received contributions up and down the lineup to score a much-needed 80-75 overtime victory over Bassick High in FCIAC action in Trumbull on Feb. 7.

The win improved the Cadets record to 6-8, and they will need two more victories in their last six games to qualify for the state tournament.

Bassick (6-8) took a one-point lead into the second quarter, before St. Joseph went on a 17-10 run to go to the locker room with a 31-25 advantage.

The rivals played the third period even at 19, and Bassick won the fourth quarter 23-17 to force the extra session.

Jonathan Dzurenda scored 27 points to lead the Cadets, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Arkel Ager tallied 20 points, Joe Mangiamele nine (two trys) and Raekwon Reid eight.

Erik Langston had seven points to go with 10 rebounds, Mike Sulik scored seven points and Dzurenda had six assists.
