St. Joseph shocked by Xavier High

The St. Joseph High boys basketball team saw its season come to a stunning halt when the third-seeded Cadets lost a 62-60 decision to 19th-seeded Xavier of Middletown in the second round of the Class LL state tournament in Trumbull on Thursday.

Coach Chris Watts’ Cadets finish at 20-3, while the 15-7 Falcons wll play at sixth-seeded Windsor High (19-3) in Friday’s quarterfinals.

St. Joseph led 15-12 after one quarter and 35-26 at the half.

Xavier drew within 48-42 after three periods and won the game with a 20-12 run in the final period.

Quincy McKnight scored 20 points, Jonny Dzuerenda 17, and Jake Pelletier and Erick Langston divided 16 markers.

Pelletier and McKnight had a pair of 3-pointers each.
